August 2019

The chilly winter months are over, we look forward to warmer days as we enter into Sprint next month.

August was an exciting month for us; not only are we commemorating women in general; we give a special recognition to all the women making waves in our financial and accounting services sector, may they continue to fly the flag high.

We have also successfully launched the Circle of Influence event on the 15th August 2019 at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in Sandown; in partnership with our fellow Setas, namely Bankseta, Inseta, ETDP Seta as well as the MICT Seta. We would like to thank all our valued stakeholders who have interacted with us at this important engagement. We look forward to hosting the next event on the 27th November 2019 in Cape Town, more information will be shared in due course.

Should you have any recommendations or queries, please email us a info@fasset.org.za

Kind regards,
Ayanda Mafuleka

Registration for Lifelong Learning Workshops are now open

Fasset invites its registered stakeholder members to join us in a one-day workshop on Business Communication and Report Writing.

This workshop is aimed at all employees in the FASSET sector who are required to write business reports within an organisation. Knowing how to correctly structure and professionally compile a report, as well as self-evaluate one's own writing are essential skills that all employees, irrespective of level, rank or title, must have or acquire and hone to ensure effective business communication with internal as well as external customers at all times.

TVET Work based Experience (WBE) Programme

The Department of Higher Education and Training identified the need to capacitate public TVET Colleges, to become the preferred providers of occupational skills, as relevant, in South Africa. This need was identified to, amongst others, address the high unemployment rate amongst the age group 16 - 34.

It is assumed that work experience will enhance the employability of unemployed persons, in particular if such work experience is:

  • Related to and supports their field of study;
  • Obtained in an environment with processes and structures in place to coach and mentor such persons;
  • Obtained in the environment of a reputable employer; and
  • Of an adequate length to allow sufficient time to gain exposure and experience in a number of generic and specific skills.
Fasset has opened a window for employers in our sector to apply to train learners from TVET Colleges. Note that the window will close on the 13 September 2019.

Please click here for further information about the TVET WBE programme and to apply.

6 Life Orientation Teachers Career Development Training Workshops

Fasset in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training is hosting the L.O Teacher's workshops and career roadshows. Fasset has identified gaps in the career awareness value chain, and in the way that career awareness information is disseminated. In closing these gaps, Fasset will be offering training to L.O Teachers as we believe they play a crucial role in career development. Six sessions have been hosted thus far, by the end of the financial year.
